Hotcars Rates 10 Trucks With The Highest Towing Capacity For 2023

Original source: Hotcars

A high towing capacity is the yardstick by which every great pickup truck is measured

Today’s pickup trucks are more powerful, comfortable, practical, and easy to use than ever before. However, all that doesn’t matter if a truck is not dependable for heavy lifting. Just as top speed is important to a supercar, so is towing capacity to a pickup truck. The bigger the number, the more appealing the truck.

The towing capacity of a pickup truck isn’t just there for its appeal, but also gives you a better view of the truck’s engineering and capability. While diesel engines boast more power and better towing capabilities, this list will only focus on the capacity of gasoline engines.

#10
2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD - 20,000 Lbs
When it comes to towing and payload, no other truck does the job better than the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD. To enjoy the gargantuan towing strength of the Silverado 3500HD, you may have to equip the Regular Cab Long Bed WT 2WD DRW package with a Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 engine.

That said, the gasoline engines of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD are still very powerful. The 3500HD Crew Cab Long Box 4-Wheel Drive LTZ package is one of the strongest configurations, with a towing capacity of 20,000 lbs.

#9
2023 Ford Super Duty F-350 - 22,000 Lbs
Ford has once again raised the bar for what a heavy-duty pickup should be capable of with the new 2023 Super Duty F-350. The Ford Super Duty truck is not only more powerful and aerodynamically impressive, but also smarter, with the introduction of 5G technology.

A 6.7-liter Powerstroke turbo diesel V8 engine is available for the 2023 Super Duty F-350 pickup as its biggest source of energy, producing up to 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. However, the standard 7.3 liter PFI V8 gasoline engine can still do big things, towing up to 22,000 lbs for the Super Duty SRW turbo models.

#8
2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD - 14,500 Lbs
Even though the heavy-duty GMC Sierra 3500HD doesn’t come with any significant changes for 2023, few pickups can exceed its sheer capability. The 6.6-liter gasoline V8 engine in the Sierra 3500HD pumps out 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque with the backing of a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 2023 Sierra 3500HD with a 4WD Crew Cab Standard Box configuration has a towing capacity of 14,500 lbs and a payload capacity of 4,365 lbs. If you can afford the Denali DRW Crew Cab Long Box 4WD package, you should have a towing capacity of 16,010 lbs and a payload capacity of 6,610 lbs.

#7
2023 Ram 3500 - 18,210 Lbs
The 2023 Ram 3500 not only delivers extreme performance with its standard 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine, but also offers innovative tech and luxury materials. The Hemi V8 engine is joined to an eight-speed automatic transmission and cranks out 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

While the available high-output 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine takes the towing capacity of the Ram 3500 to 37,090 lbs, equipping the heavy-duty Ram with its standard Hemi V8 gives you a towing capacity of 18,210 lbs and a maximum payload of 7,680 lbs.

#6
2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD - 18,510 Lbs
If you can get past the brash looks of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, you will realize it’s an extremely capable full-size truck, particularly with its stump-pulling turbo-diesel engine.

A naturally-aspirated 6.6-liter V8 gas engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission comes standard for the 2023 Silverado 2500HD with an output of 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. The maximum towing capacity of the Silverado 2500HD is 18,510 lbs.

#5
2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD - 14,500 Lbs
The 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD has an imposing look, but you will be more relaxed and composed once you step inside. The same standard gasoline engine and available diesel engine of the Sierra 3500HD are found in the 2500HD, which starts at $42,200.

Equipping the 2500HD with a 4WD Crew Cab Standard Box package offers a maximum towing capacity of 14,500 lbs and a payload of 3,760 lbs. Going for the 4WD Crew Cab Long Box package gives you the same towing capacity, but a lesser payload capacity of 3,862 lbs.

#4
2023 Ram 2500 - 17,730 Lbs
Starting at $44,390, the heavy-duty 2023 Ram 2500 is not just a reliable workhorse, but also packs plenty of high-tech features for your comfort. The standard 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine is tied up with an eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

For better responsiveness and impressive torque ratings without sacrificing efficiency, Ram makes a 6.7-liter Cummins turbo diesel engine available for the 2500 pickup truck. The standard Hemi V8 engine allows you to tow up to 17,730 lbs with a maximum payload of 4,000 lbs.

#3

2023 Ford Super Duty F-250 - 19,500 Lbs
While the iconic Ford F-150 is the bestselling pickup in the US, you might need the Super Duty F-250 for hauling heavy loads. The long-serving 6.2-liter V8 engine has been jilted for a 6.8-liter gasoline V8 engine bolted to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford 3/4 ton pickup truck has a more powerful 7.3-liter V8 gas engine with a maximum conventional towing capacity of 19,500 lbs and a payload capacity of about 4,260 lbs. Equipping the Super Duty F-250 with a 6.7-liter Powerstroke turbo-diesel engine increases its towing capacity to 22,800 lbs.

#2
2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - 13,300 Lbs
The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a good build quality with four lively powertrains. A 2.7-liter turbo engine with an output of 310 hp and 430 lb.-ft. of torque is standard on the Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss, LT, and RST Double Cab.

You can also opt for a 355-hp 5.3L ECOTEC3 V8 or a 420-hp 6.2L ECOTEC3 V8 engine to make short work of big jobs. The 6.2-liter V8 is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and allows you to tow up to 13,300 lbs.

# 1
2023 GMC Sierra 1500 - 13,000 Lbs
The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 offers a variety of powertrains for towing and hauling needs. A 2.7-liter turbo engine with an output of 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, is standard for the Pro, SLE, and Elevation. A 355-hp 5.3-liter V8 engine is standard for the SLT and Denali.

The most powerful gas engine for the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is a 6.2-liter V8 that pumps out 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. As the standard engine for the AT4X and Denali Ultimate models, its maximum trailering capacity of 13,000 lbs.
